Our enthusiasm for this place might be influenced by the fact that we were re-uniting with old friends, but looking at other reviews I doubt that's the case. Everyone seems to dig it, and for good reason. It's got a great atmosphere, friendly and competent staff, and a menu that you just don't expect in a place with "tavern" in the name.
I had the signature Pot Roast and it was, without a doubt, the best pot roast ever. (A title I figured that I'd never confer in my lifetime; I didn't even know it existed as a category until this meal!)
And, not to be missed, completely homemade s'mores. (Not like the partially-homemade variety at Silver Cloud.) Even the graham crackers were lovingly hand concocted.
(What is it with Chicago and putting s'mores on the dessert menu? What's next, a spoonful of coolwhip?)
